Tourism Society Annual Conference
25/06/2009
Venue: Yorkshire
Every year The Tourism Society organises a number of dynamic and topical meetings where tourism issues are explained, debated and explored. The meetings are chaired by experts and participants are invited to contribute and debate.
In June, over 100 delegates convened in York for the Annual Tourism Society Conference.
Victoria Riley (Sales & Marketing Manager) and Haydn Bass (Account Manager) from New Vision joined their clients from Welcome to Yorkshire, York, Swale, Moors & Coast and West Yorkshire who were among the delegates, to debate whether Tourism could be the saviour of the UK economy.
The event, sponsored by Welcome to Yorkshire, certainly went with a bang with a troupe of Welcome to Yorkshire drummers leading the Tourism Society procession through the streets of York to the Minster where a champagne reception was enjoyed by all. Later, comedian Barry Cryer OBE entertained guests over dinner, served at the picturesque 14th century listed Hospitium.
High profile speakers, which included Nigel Leacock, Managing Director of Lloyds TSB, Penelope Lady Cobham, Chairman of VisitEngland, and Sir Thomas Ingilby from Ripley Castle, delivered thought-provoking talks and ideas on interesting marketing tactics to combat the global economic downturn.
New Vision continue to be active supporters of both the Tourism Society and the Tourism Management Institute, and regularly attend their events.
Victoria Riley, Sales & Marketing Manager, believes they are crucial to their business.
"These industry society events are of great importance to us as a supplier to the tourism sector because they give us valuable insight into the bigger issues affecting tourism" she says and adds, "We are pleased to see that so many of our clients also support these societies and we value the opportunities to share knowledge and network with them, along with other members".
