Cumbria lead the way with mobile site
Cumbria Tourism was one of the first destinations in the country to have a .mobi website from NVG; and they saw their site top an impressive one million page views in the first few months, as well as generate an additional 23,000 visits to provider websites. That means potentially more enquiries and more bookings for the area's 3,000 accommodation providers.
As part of NVG's 'write-once, publish many' philosophy, Cumbria were able to use their existing product data alongside NVG's publishing tools to populate their mobile-specific site. This was designed and built by NVG to complement their main destination website with uniformity of theme, design and imagery. Device detection tools were used to create consistency across the range of handsets that may be used to browse and the full integration with the applications such as Google maps was further used to maximise the viewing and browsing experience.
NVG's Publishing Channel solution includes a range of products that enable destinations to publish their data across a range of channels including mobile sites, kiosks, corporate websites, and mobile apps in creative and engaging ways. We also provide a range of services to make it easy to display the data on externally hosted/third party websites through web services, RSS feeds and white labeled pages.

Alex Rehm, Web Architect at NVG says that .mobi sites are a trend that is steadily growing: "With more and more mobile phone users switching to smart phone devices and joining the 'on-the-move' generation destinations need to stay ahead of the game and provide direct information access to their destination and relevant product information. We predict that mobile use will increase two, maybe threefold over the next year, and more and more businesses and destination-focused websites are going to create mobile-only websites to reach this 'on-the-move' generation wherever they are, to feature their brand and promote their services." NVG is harnessing this trend with highly functional purpose-built sites designed to enhance the positive experience of visitors and users on the go. Careful consideration of user-centred design with a focus on limited screen size is required to produce a site that is fully accessible and usable, with information just three clicks away. NVG sites maintain minimal loading times and avoid downloads, flash and pop-ups to maximise usability and navigation speed. For the traveller, accessing the internet on a mobile device is all about getting the content they want precisely when they want it, such as hotel information, maps, directions, event dates, or contact numbers. NVG also provides destinations with mobile apps to further engage visitors, an identified means of viral marketing that's popular with destinations. This page will generate a detail page for an information sheet.
